Usage Introduction
A nut is a fastener with internal threads that is used in conjunction with a bolt. It is a mechanical component with internal threads that is used in conjunction with a screw to transmit motion or power.
A nut is a component that is tightened together with a bolt or screw to provide a fastening effect. It is a necessary part for all production and manufacturing machinery. There are many types of nuts, including national standard, British standard, American standard, and Japanese standard nuts. Depending on the material, nuts are divided into several types such as carbon steel, high-strength, stainless steel, plastic steel, etc. According to the product properties, they are classified into ordinary, non-standard, (old) national standard, new national standard, American standard, British standard, and German standard according to different national standards. Due to differences in size, threads are not evenly divided into different specifications. Generally, national and German standards are represented by M (such as M8, M16), while American and British standards are represented by fractions or # (such as 8 #, 10 #, 1/4, 3/8) for fasteners. Nuts are parts that tightly connect mechanical equipment, and can only be connected together through internal threads, nuts and screws of the same specification. For example, M4-0.7 nuts can only be matched with M4-0.7 screws (in nuts, M4 refers to the inner diameter of the nut being approximately 4mm, and 0.7 refers to the distance between two threaded teeth being 0.7mm); The same applies to American products, for example, 1/4-20 nuts can only be paired with 1/4-20 screws (1/4 refers to nuts with an inner diameter of approximately 0.25 inches, and 20 refers to 20 teeth per inch)
Classification
Hexagonal nuts are classified into three types based on their nominal thickness: Type I, Type II, and Thin. Nuts above level 8 are divided into two types: Type I and Type II.
Type I hex nuts are the most widely used, and Type 1 nuts are divided into three levels: A, B, and C. Grade A and B nuts are suitable for machines, equipment, and structures with low surface roughness and high precision requirements, while Grade C nuts are used for machines, equipment, or structures with relatively rough surfaces and low precision requirements;
The thickness of Type II hex nuts is relatively thick and is often used in situations where assembly and disassembly are required.
Type I nut refers to a regular hexagonal nut with a nominal height m ≥ 0.8D, and its type and size should comply with the provisions of GB/T6170;
The height of Type II nuts is higher than that of Type 1 nuts, and their type and size should comply with GB/T6175. The purpose of adding Type II nuts is twofold: firstly, to obtain a cost-effective nut that does not require heat treatment by increasing the height of the nut.
Because grade 8 I-type nuts with D ≤ M16 do not require heat treatment, only grade 2 nuts are used for sizes D>M16-39 among grade 8 nuts,
Obviously, I-type nuts that do not require heat treatment cannot meet the mechanical performance requirements of grade 9 nuts. Another purpose of specifying Type II nuts is to obtain Grade 12 nuts with better toughness. Due to the increased height of the nut, the guaranteed stress index can be achieved at lower quenching and tempering hardness, thus increasing the toughness of the nut.
Classified by tooth spacing: standard teeth, regular teeth, fine teeth, extremely fine teeth, and reverse teeth.
Classified by material: stainless steel hex nut, carbon steel hex nut, copper hex nut, iron hex nut.
Classified by thickness: hexagonal thick nuts and hexagonal thin nuts.
